Novice Club Fight Results

Congratulations to Vic, Tim and Jay who all fought at the K-2 in Crawley this weekend in the Interclub Novice Knockdown. Between them they brought home to Silver Medals and a Gold.

Jay had two fights in the lightweight catagory, the first of which unfortunately ended rather prematurely as Jay caught his opponent on the jaw and was disqualified. As the event was a round robin structure however he was allowed to fight again and managed to keep his punches down in his second fight. Jay came out strong with solid combinations to his opponents mid-section interspersed with left and right lowkicks. He kept hitting home the chudan level punches which proved too much for his opponent who turned away from the fight on two seperate occasions the second of which resulting in Jay being awarded the win.

Big Vic was up in the heavy weights and had two fights both of which went the distance. Vic had a powerful opponent in his first fight who came out hard perhaps slightly catching Vic off guard who then unfortunately forgot about his lowkicks. He put up a respectable challenge though with his fists which forced a draw from the judges. Vic's second fight was a better performance this time using his legs, occasionaly, before being punched in the throat mid way through the fight. After a brief pause to recover the fight continued and again was declared a draw by the judges. Unfortunatley Vic's tw other opponents had to withdraw through injury.

Tim took to the mat in the middleweight catagory and had a total of four fights. His first opponent came out hard and fast forcing Tim back and eventually causing him to lose his balance and fall over. Once back on his feet Tim began working the low kicks on both sides in combination with the punches which quickly slowed his opponent down allowing Tim to take a bit more control of the fight. Both fighters continued with good combinations until the end when it was declared a draw. Tim unfortunately didn't seem to turn up for his second fight, clearly still exhausted from the first fight Tim set up camp in the middle of the mat soaking up various combinations from his opponent. Although nothing in particular got though there was little coming back from Tim which resulted in his opponent getting the decision. Third fight up and having had a chance to rest Tim came out strong consistenty working a punch punch lowkick combination hitting his opponents back leg repeatedly. His opponent continued to take it on the back leg for the whole two minutes, ultimately with the lack of a stoppage the fight was declared a draw. Tim's last fight and the final fight of the day again saw him working the punch punch lowkick combination effectively this time hurting his opponent who hopped off the mat after several blows to the back leg. Tim clearly keen to get a knockout then switched the attack upstairs throwing in jodan mawashi-geri's unfortunately the tired legs were a little too slow in getting up there and ultimately he had to settle for putting in a couple more low kicks again causing his opponent to hop off the mat and winning the fight.

Well done to all three fighters and a big thanks to Darren Chan for coaching them from the back of the mat. Also a big thanks to Bradley, Amanda and Kieron for coming along to support the fighters.
